Without wasting your time, we will cover some basic questions now. Is this guide for you? Well, only you can answer this question, if you are gamer (casual or pro), and you want to improve your PC gaming experience as much as you can, than, it is for you. Real gamers do not play with v-sync, but even if you do, this can be useful for you. Target is, to get smoothest experience as you can, it doesn't matter what hardware you are using (as long as it's capable for running games you want). Also, bare on mind, that there isn't only one tweak that you can do to improve your experience overall, but combination of tweaks is what brings the magic. Keep on mind that those tweaks will not necessarily give you FPS (frames per second) boost, but overall smoother (lag free) experience. One thing i must point out also, that there is quite a bit of people thinking their system preforming well, it is personal perception, and you should take even your own perception with reserve.

Advantages and disadvantages of WiMax

Advantages and Disadvantages of WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access)

Advantages of WiMAX Technology

WiMAX technology provides the following advantages:
    Disadvantages of WiMAX Technology
  • Long range access
  • Symmetrical bandwidth over long range
  • A single WiMAX station can serve hundreds of users
  • It works on an unlicensed frequency spectrum

Disadvantages of WiMAX Technology

The disadvantages of WiMAX technology are:
  • Spectral limitation
  • Poor bandwidth when serving lots of clients
  • High cost – both for installation and operation
  • Unreliable service
  • Weather conditions like rain can have a big impact on the service
  • Big delay
  • Line-of-sight is needed for longer distances
  • Interference with other wireless signals
  • It has a big power consumption
  • Multiple frequencies are used for WiMAX deployment

The Overview of WiMAX Technology and its Usage

WiMAX Technology

WiMAX – Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access is a wireless technology. It supports transmission speeds up to 40 Mbps. With the update 2011, the maximum speeds are even up to 1 Gbps for fixed stations. WiMAX enables the last mile wireless broadband access and serves as an alternative for the fixed broadband technologies like cable, DSL and optical fiber.
IEEE 802.16 is a family of Broadband standards for Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks. Official name of the 802.16 family is Wireless MAN, but it is more known for under the name WiMAX.
If you are interested to find out more about the family of Wireless MAN standards, you could read my article 802.16 – Standard for Wireless MAN or WiMAX Network.
More about the other types of wireless technologies you could read on How Does Wireless Internet Work.
You could also find the name for WiMAX – WiFi on steroids. To check more about the WiFi read what is WiFi.

The Usage of WiMAX

Is the WiMAX technology the right choice for you? When you take in consideration disadvantages of WiMAX, but also advantages of this Wireless MAN technology, WiMAX is the right choice for the following cases:
  • Offering broadband wireless internet access in the remote places without DSL, cable, fiber optic access.
  • Enabling portable wireless broadband connection between cities and even countries.
  • Wireless backhaul technology for 2G, 3G and 4G cellular networks.

Qualities Of IT Professionals

There are several qualities that separate one professional from the other. This is more evident in the IT filed. There are often times that people ask us, what is your profession? We usually give the same cliché response that we are a writer or an engineer etc.

However, the eyebrow raiser is when one answers that, ‘wow, my daughter just graduated in Computer Science and has secured a job in an Insurance company in the IT department.' So one has to undoubtedly think about the qualities that make IT professionals so sought after. Here are ten such qualities listed below:-

1.Technology savvy – If you enjoy what you do then it reflects in your work and style of working. If you love your work, you do it better and you are committed to it. You are also willing to take on more challenges if you are technology savvy.

2. Can interpret data – As per cio.com, data is the lifeline of any IT organization, an IT professional must have an in depth knowledge of a company’s data. Data caters for insights on connectivity of all major software applications.

What happens when you swallow chewing gum?

While it is true that gum is pretty much indigestible, the stomach typically empties all contents within two to four hours. This includes bubble gum. Travel time through the small intestines is less than two hours, and the colon empties within 24 hours.

CAE exam in Nepal:An alternative to IELTS

With a CAE test under their belt, students can apply for a visa, just like they would with the IELTS, which was the only test they could take in the past. Today, the CAE is recognised for all categories of UK visas applicants.

Manish Gautam
Losing an entire academic session just because the date for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a mandatory test for students who want to go abroad for further studies, is months away might not be a good idea. On the one hand, even after taking the exam students won't be guaranteed a  visa; on the other, students will have to take the exam all over again as its validity expires in two years. Needless to say this obligation of taking the IELTS examinations and the unavailability of more dates has forced many students in Nepal to delay their studies.

A new test in town
An equivalent test, the Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) exam, has come as a respite for students aspiring to go to universities in Australia and the UK. With a CEA test under their belt, students can apply for a visa, just like they would with the IELTS, which was the only test they could take in the past. Today, the CAE is recognised for all categories of UK visas applicants. Furthermore, the test is accepted in Canada, New Zealand and the US for students who wish to pursue higher studies; for those who wish to apply for a migrant visa, the CAE is accepted only in Australia and the UK.

"We have come across many students who have delayed their studies just because the IELTS date is months away. Right now, for instance, the date is available only in July," says Uttam Prasad Pant, Centre Exams Manager of the University of Cambridge English Language Assessment Centre.

Launched in 1991, the CAE has today become a widely trusted, high-quality test of English for academic and professional purposes. This is demonstrated by the global acceptance of the test by more than 3,000 organisations, including education institutions, governments and employers.

The test was updated in 1999 and 2008 to reflect changes in language teaching and testing. It is available in both paper-based and computer-based versions in over 1,300 centres in 113 countries. The test was launched in Nepal on August 19, 2011 and has since been attracting many students. The exam, just like IELTS, is conducted by Cambridge ESOL, Cambridge University, which means that its quality is backed by a reputed body. "The popularity of the test in India was amazing, and that made us realise that it would be popular in Nepal too," says Panta.

And just like the IELTS, the CAE is an in-depth test of English. There are other similarities too: the test comprises five papers-- Reading, Writing, Use of English, Listening and Speaking. Each paper carries 20 percent of the total marks.

But the CAE does offer distinct advantages to the IELTS. First, the CAE is cheaper. The IELTS course costs Rs 12,300, while the CAE costs just Rs 11,000. Besides the lower cost, an important feature of the CAE is that its validity never expires, unlike the IELTS, whose validity only lasts for two years. This, Panta believes, might end the monopoly enjoyed by IELTS test with the CAE now being a viable option. The CAE is available as both a paper-based and computer-based test, offering students a choice about how they want to take the exam. Furthermore, the exam is available 37 times a year, with test dates at least once a month. And the results are issued quickly--in two weeks for the computer-based exam and four weeks for the paper-based exam.

The CAE is, however, a longer test than the IELTS. The CAE is made up of a 40-minute listening test; a 75 -minute reading test; a 90-minute writing test; a 60-minute test called 'Use of English', and a 15-minute speaking test. The test thus takes 4 hours 40 minutes to complete, while the IELTS takes 2 hours 45 minutes. Panta says the longer time means that the CAE is more comprehensive.

The score for the tests use different ranges too:
> A score of 80 in the CAE would be the equivalent of an 8 in the IELTS;
> a 74 in the CAE would be a 7.5 in the IELTS;
> a 67 in the CAE would mean would mean 7, and so on.

Different Schools of Economics

Austrian Economics
Overview – A “heterodox” school of economics grounded primarily in the work of Mises, Hayek, Menger and Rothbard that advocates the purposeful economic decisions of the individual.
Mission Statement – The free market can solve most of our problems and the more we reduce government or eliminate government the better off we will all be.
General view of the economy – The less the government is involved in the economy the better it will perform.
How to fix the economy – We can fix the economy by reducing government and central bank involvement in free market forces.
What they love – Austrian Business Cycle Theory, free markets, individual freedoms and unfettered capitalism.
What they hate – Paul Krugman, the Federal Reserve, “Keynesians” and anyone who advocates for government intervention in markets.
Notable Pundits – Peter Schiff, Robert Murphy& Tom Woods.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School -  Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Carl Menger & Murray Rothbard.
Political Associations – Libertarians, conservatives, extreme conservatives and just about anyone who dislikes the government.
Preferred form of communication - Generally aggressive promotion of anti-government views through blog comments and conservative media.

Behavioral Economics
Overview - One of the newest and fastest growing schools of economics.  Widely perceived as one of the most positive recent developments in economics.
Mission Statement - The best way to understand the workings of the economy is by understanding the way the human mind reacts and adapts to markets and the economy.
General view of the economy - The economy is complex, dynamic and uncertain and is being navigated by imperfect participants.  Because of this it could be appropriate for government intervention at times.
How to fix the economy - Behavioralists don’t make specific policy recommendations, but generally believe that we can better understand the economy if we better understand human psychology as it pertains to money, markets and the economy.
What they love - Prospect theory, studying human biases and highlighting the fact that we’re totally ill-equipped to deal with money and markets.
What they hate - That their work is often rejected by mainstream economists as being something outside of the field of real economics.
Notable Pundits - Richard Thaler, Robert Shiller, Dan Ariely & Daniel Kahneman.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - George Katona & Amos Tversky.
Political Associations - No direct political associations.
Preferred form of communication - Well researched papers and books primarily.  Behavioralists, not surprisingly, tend to be open-minded and well behaved.

Classical Economics
Overview - The “original” school of economics based on the understandings of the “classics” like Adam Smith, David Ricardo and John Stuart Mill that stressed economic growth and freedom emphasizing free markets.
Mission Statement - The “invisible hand” of the free markets is all we need to achieve equilibrium.
General view of the economy - Classical economists were the emerging capitalists from the age of feudalism.  They saw outside intervention in the markets (such as regulation and government) as a disruption to the natural order of markets.
How to fix the economy - Let the free markets do their thing.
What they love - Say’s Law, the concept of the “invisible hand”, laissez fairre ideas and free markets.
What they hate - Outside intervention in markets and mercantilism.
Notable Pundits - None living.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - Adam Smith, David Ricardo & John Stuart Mill.
Political Associations - Conservative.
Preferred form of communication - This school has evolved into the modern neoclassical schools.

1 - The Wealth of Nations – Smith
2 – On Liberty – Mill
Market Monetarism
Overview - Largely seen as a revival of traditional Monetarism utilizing the foundations of Milton Friedman’s work and growing extremely popular with the “freshwater” schools.
Mission Statement – The Central Bank can steer the economy on a glide path to prosperity through a laissez fairre approach if we implement NGDP targeting.
General view of the economy - The economy is unlikely to reach equilibrium without a permanent NGDP targeting rule in place.
How to fix the economy – Duh, NGDP targeting.
What they love - NGDP targeting.
What they hate - Anyone who rejects NGDP targeting.  And people who confuse their thinking with traditional Monetarist views centered around monetary aggregates, monetary velocity and interest rates.
Notable PunditsScott Sumner, David Beckworth & Nick Rowe.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - Milton Friedman.
Political Associations - Libertarian and conservative.
Preferred form of communication - Scott Sumner’s blog.

Marxian Economics
Overview - A largely defunct school of thought based on the economics of Karl Marx.
Mission Statement - Capitalism is not just flawed, but likely to screw most of us all if left to its own devices.
General view of the economy - A capitalist economy is not just flawed, but naturally self destructive and therefore requires outside intervention and regulation to be consistent with prosperity.  In essence, the capitalist class will obtain exceptional power over the labor class resulting in massive inequality and general hardship.
How to fix the economy - Intervene preemptively to make sure the capitalists don’t wreck it.
What they love - The labor class.
What they hate - The capitalist class.
Notable Pundits - Karl Marx, Karl Marx and some guy named Karl Marx.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - Some guy named Karl Marx.
Political Associations - Extremist liberals.

Overview - A heterodox school associated with a branch of the Post-Keynesian school of economics (see below) that has become very popular on the internet in the last 10 years.
Mission Statement - There is no economic problem that fiscal policy can’t solve.
General view of the economy - Capitalism is naturally flawed and can only operate at full capacity if the government is used to permanently fill any demand shortages that exist.
How to fix the economy - Fiscal policy in the form of tax cuts and spending increases in addition to the implementation of a government Job Guarantee to employ anyone who wants a job.
What they love - Job guarantees and telling you how little you know about economics.
What they hate - That the mainstream won’t take them seriously.
Notable Pundits - Warren Mosler, Randall Wray and William Mitchell.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - GF Knapp, Abba LernerAlfred Mitchell-Innes.

New Classical Economics
Overview - The New Classical school is the modern adaptation of the classical school (see above).   It is based on Walrasian assumptions, rational expectations and arose out of the failures of the Old Keynesian schools during the failure of the Phillips Curve and stagflation in the 1970′s.
Mission Statement - Macroeconomics requires new classical microfoundations to be properly utilized.
General view of the economy - Rational agents are always making optimal decisions and firms are always maximizing profits, but the economy is often shocked by “real” effects like unanticipated policy changes, changes in technology or changes in raw materials.
How to fix the economy - New Classical economists are generally associated with a laissez faire approach to policy.
What they love - The Lucas Critique, Ricardian Equivalence, rational expectations & microfoundations.
What they hate - The concept of “involuntary unemployment” and  policy stabilization.
Notable Pundits - Edward Prescott, Robert Lucas, Thomas Sargent and Robert Barro.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - John Muth.
Political Associations - Generally conservative, but at times also appealing to no specific political party.
Preferred form of communication - Academic work primarily.

New Keynesian Economics
Overview - The New Keynesians are the adaptation of the Old Keynesians who responded to the criticism of the New Classicals in the 1970s and 80′s by creating an updated model of the economy to help explain some of the Keynesian failures of the 70′s.  Most of the “economics” one learns today is closely related to or directly related to New Keynesian economics.  It has become, by a wide margin, the dominant model used by policymakers.  Although it adopted the term “Keynesian” in its name the school actually pitches a fairly broad tent using some neoclassical foundations as well as Monetarist perspectives.
Mission Statement - Although economic agents are rational we believe policymakers can improve economic stability and help attain full employment through various stabilization policies designed to combat a variety of market failures.
General view of the economy - Economic agents are rational, but markets are imperfect due to phenomena such as “sticky prices”.  This can result in broad market failures leading to recession.
How to fix the economy - New Keynesians will generally deviate towards the use of Monetary Policy, but will at times also recommend fiscal policy to help stablilize the economy.  They have become particularly vocal during the recent recession due to the “zero lower bound” and the ineffectiveness of monetary policy thereby arguing for a fiscal approach.
What they love - Sticky prices, rational expectations, the Zero Lower Bound, the natural rate of interest, DSGE modeling.
What they hate - Not much.  They pretty much dominate the popular economic journals, textbooks and have the ears of policymakers.  If anything, they hate not being taken even more seriously than people already take them and mostly fight among one another regarding their minor differences on policy and politics.
Notable Pundits - On the liberal side: Paul Krugman, Brad Delong & Joe Stiglitz. On the conservative side:   Greg Mankiw, David Romer & Olivier Blanchard.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - JM Keynes although it should be noted that New Keynesian economics has actually deviated substantially from the original work of Keynes and has incorporated a good deal of both Monetarist and neoclassical concepts which Keynes would have rejected.
Political Associations - This tent is broad with both conservative and liberal economists.
Preferred form of communication - Academic research and several popular blogs such as Paul Krugman’s NY Times blog and Greg Mankiw’s blog.  These economists also dominate the textbook arena.
Further Reading:
1 – What is New Keynesian Economics?  -  Gordon
2 – New Keynesian Economics – Mankiw
Post-Keynesian Economics
Overview - A branch of Keynesian economics that portends to get back to what the “true Keynes” thought about the economy and how to improve it.
Mission Statement – JM Keynes had it all right all along.  Involuntary unemployment is the result of aggregate demand shortages resulting primarily from failures by firms to maximize investment.
General view of the economy – Capitalism exists on an inherently unstable foundation and will at times require some forms of government intervention to achieve prosperity.
How to fix the economy – Counter-cyclical policies with a focus on fiscal policy.
What they love - Rejecting large swaths of mainstream economics and calling out modern Keynesians for having misconstrued the works of Keynes.
What they hate - Thinking that the mainstream thinks they’re irrelevant cranks.
Notable PunditsPaul Davidson, Tom Palley and Marc Lavoie.
Famous Dead Economist Associated with School - Wynne Godley, Joan Robinson and Nicholas Kaldor.
Political Associations - Centrists and liberals.
Preferred form of communication - Virtually none.  The school is almost entirely unrepresented by a prominent mainstream voice and is largely shut out of the prominent academic journals.

Trick: Get someone to do a favor for you—also known as the Benjamin Franklin effect.
Legend has it that Benjamin Franklin once wanted to win over a man who didn’t like him. He asked the man to lend him a rare book and when the book was received he thanked him graciously. As a result, this the man who had never wanted to speak to him before, became good friends with Franklin. To quote Franklin: “He that has once done you a kindness will be more ready to do you another than he whom you yourself have obliged.”
Scientists decided to test this theory and found that those who were asked by the researcher for a personal favor rated the researcher much more favorably than the other groups did. It may seem counter-intuitive, but the theory is pretty sound. If someone does a favor for you, they are likely to rationalize that you must have been worth doing the favor for, and decide that therefore they must like you.

Free wi-fi hotspots pose data risk, Europol warns

Free wi-fi hotspots pose data risk, Europol warns

Sensitive information should not be sent over public wi-fi hotspots, to avoid hackers stealing it, Europe's top cybercrime police officer has warned.
Troels Oerting, head of Europol's cybercrime centre, told BBC Click people should send personal data only across networks they trusted.
He said the warning was motivated by the growing number of attacks being carried out via public wi-fi.
Europol is helping a number of countries after such attacks, he said.
Stolen data
"We have seen an increase in the misuse of wi-fi, in order to steal information, identity or passwords and money from the users who use public or insecure wi-fi connections," he said.
Online bank login"We should teach users that they should not address sensitive information while being on an open insecure wi-fi internet.
Sensitive data should only be swapped via home networks
"They should do this from home where they know actually the wi-fi and its security, but not if you are in a coffee shop somewhere you shouldn't access your bank or do all of these things that actually transfer very sensitive information."
Mr Oerting said Europol, which helps co-ordinate investigations into organised crime across Europe, was assisting several member states who had seen attacks carried out on wi-fi networks.
The attackers were not using novel techniques, he said, but relied on well-known approaches that attempt to trick people into connecting to a hotspot that, superficially, resembles those seen in cafes, pubs and restaurants and other public spaces.
'Man in the middle'
The attacks meant that data swapped when people communicate with a bank, shop via the web or log in to social media sites could be captured by attackers.
"Everything that you send through the wi-fi is potentially at risk, and this is something that we need to be very concerned about both as individual users but also as police," he told Click.
Mr Oerting's warning comes only a few months after the European parliament turned off its public wi-fi system after it was discovered that a "man-in-the-middle" attack was being perpetrated via the service.
As its name implies, in this attack thieves attempt to insert themselves between users and a hotspot to gather all data passing between the two points.
The warning was echoed by Charlie McMurdie, former head of the UK's cybercrime unit and now a senior security analyst at PWC.
"A lot of mainstream criminals have identified there are easy opportunities and vulnerabilities just walking down the street and exploiting wi-fi networks that exist in every coffee shop," she said.
Rogue hotspots
Large companies were also falling victim to this type of crime, said Ms McMurdie, because they were not watching out for the rogue hotspots that are regularly turning up.
Sometimes, said Ms McMurdie, attackers used hotspots to get at particular individuals rather than to grab all the data flowing from everyone using a public network.
Everyone needed to be aware of what they were putting at risk when they use wi-fi networks and the data it can potentially hand over to criminals.
"There is the need for raising awareness of what the vulnerabilities are and what you should be doing to protect yourself whether you're on the move or in a physical location," she said.
The BBC Click investigation into how safe public wi-fi hotspots are can be seen on the Click TV show this weekend.

Hacking Resources: Top 6 VoIP Analysers

Hacking could be so much fun,

Especially with the right tools at hand.

VoIP allows users to make voice calls over the internet. It allows free calls, no matter what the distance between the caller and the receiver. Moreover, it is a very good way not only for an individual, but for enterprise clients too, who can reduce their costs by quite a bit using these services. However, we are discussing hacking in the current article. Therefore we intent on hacking/analysing VoIP and the following tools are good for the purpose.

1.CommView

CommView is a powerful network monitor and analyser designed for LAN administrators, security professionals, network programmers, home users etc. This application captures every packet on the wire to display important information such as a list of packets and network connections, vital statistics, protocol distribution charts, and so on. CommView includes a VoIP analyser for in-depth analysis, recording, and playback of SIP and H.323 voice communications.

2.Cain & Abel

Cain & Abel is a password recovery tool for Microsoft Operating Systems. It allows easy recovery of various kind of passwords by sniffing the network, cracking encrypted passwords using Dictionary, Brute-Force and Cryptanalysis attacks, recording VoIP conversations, decoding scrambled passwords, recovering wireless network keys, revealing password boxes, uncovering cached passwords and analysing routing protocols.

3.VoIP Security Tool List

This VoIP Security Tool List provides categories, descriptions and links to current free and commercial VoIP security tools.

4.OmniPeek

OmniPeek gives network engineers real-time visibility and network analysis into every part of the network from a single interface, including Ethernet, Gigabit, 10 Gigabit, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless, VoIP, and video to remote offices.

5.vomit

The vomit utility converts a Cisco IP phone conversation into a wave file that can be played with ordinary sound players. Vomit requires a tcpdump output file. Vomit is not a VoIP sniffer also it could be but the naming is probably related to H.323.

6.VoIP Hopper

VoIP Hopper is a GPLv3 licensed security tool, written in C, that rapidly runs a VLAN Hop security test. VoIP Hopper is a VoIP infrastructure security testing tool but also a tool that can be used to test the (in)security of VLANs.

What makes tattoos permanent? - Claudia Aguirre

The earliest recorded tattoo was found on a Peruvian mummy in 6,000 BC. That’s some old ink! And considering humans lose roughly 40,000 skin cells per hour, how do these markings last? Claudia Aguirre details the different methods, machines and macrophages (you’ll see) that go into making tattoos stand the test of time.
