Brain Tips

** Sleeping in a side position compared to sleeping on one's back or stomach, appears to more effectively remove brain waste and may reduce the chances of developing Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other neurological diseases, according to new research at Stony Brook University.

** Wearing high heels weakens ankle muscles, causing ankle instability and balance problems over time. To strengthen your ankles, perform simple heel lifts- stand barefoot and rise on to your toes repeatedly and heal drops- stand on the edge of a stair and slowly lower your heel over the edge. Slipping off heels while sitting helps restore the normal resting length of the muscles and tendons around the ankles.

** Science has flip-flopped on the health benefits of coffee. But in recent years the prevailing evidence supports the idea that coffee intake is associated with a lower risk of Parkinson's disease and age-related cognitive decline, as well as a potential protective effect against Alzheimer's disease.
