Scholarships and Financial Aid for International Students from University of Oregon,USA
The University of Oregon is a comprehensive research university that
serves its students and the people of Oregon, the nation, and the world
through the creation and transfer of knowledge in the liberal arts, the
natural and social sciences, and the professions. It is the Association
of American Universities' flagship institution of the Oregon University
System.
University of Oregon offers financial aid for international students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Each year the University of Oregon awards more than $1 million in financial aid and scholarships to international students.
Given
below are some of financial aid and scholarship opportunities for
international students. Both international students and domestic
freshman students who apply by January 15 are automatically considered
for the General University Scholarship Program.
International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) Tuition Scholarships
The
ICSP scholarship awards 30–40 competitive scholarships to international
students each year. Scholarships apply to tuition only and range from
$7,000–$27,000 per year. The ICSP scholarship has a cultural service
component that requires students to give presentations about their home
country to children, community organizations, and UO students, faculty,
and staff. ICSP scholarships are based on financial need, academic
merit, and the ability to make presentations to diverse groups of
people. ICSP scholarships are renewable. To apply, complete the ICSP
application before January 15.
International Dean’s Excellence Award (IDEA) for New International Students
The
IDEA scholarship is a merit-based, partial-tuition scholarship awarded
to new international undergraduate applicants entering in the fall
(September). All international students who apply for admission by
January 15 are considered for this award. A separate application is not
required. The scholarship is valued at $6,000–$8,000 each and is
renewable based on academic performance.
New freshmen applicants
entering in the fall (September) who have completed the full
International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma will automatically receive the
full award amount of the IDEA scholarship.
Summit and Apex Scholarships
The
Summit and Apex Scholarships are merit-based awards based on high
school grade point average and SAT or ACT scores. The Summit provides
$8,000 per year to international students, and the Apex provides $4,000.
Both are renewable up to four years. To qualify, you must apply for
admission by January 15, and all application materials must be received
by February 15.
International Student Work-Study Program
This
program grants more than 50 work-study awards, ranging from $500–$3,000
each year, to eligible international students with financial need.
Students who receive these awards can compete for on-campus work-study
jobs during the academic year. Students are not guaranteed on-campus
jobs, but opportunities for on-campus employment will increase. To be
considered, complete the application by April 15.
Helen and Barney Wood Nepalese Student Scholarship:
Established
by Dr. Wood, a former UO professor of education, one scholarship of
approximately $4,000 may be awarded each academic year to a student from
Nepal. New and continuing students from Nepal may apply. Students must
also be awarded a tuition remission scholarship from UO to qualify.
